National Cleanse Your Skin Week - Skincare Routines

CleanseYourSkin

Hi Beauties,

We're almost at the end of National Cleanse Your Skin Week and I'm honestly a little bummed. I love skincare but this week has brought me so much joy and had my creative juices flowing.

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's blog on the ingredients you should be looking for in your skincare products. If you need to catch up on the blogs in this skincare series, click HERE.

As promised, today I'm going to share with you a few skin routines that you can start implementing today. But before we take a look at the routines, I want to talk a little about double cleansing.

Double Cleansing by Beauty Mixtress™

Double Cleansing
Double cleansing is not just cleansing your skin twice, but its a method of using two different types of cleansers, to prepare for your skin type.

There’s no set guideline for which types of cleansers are best for double cleansing; the most common practice is to wash your face with a pure oil, oil-based liquid cleanser, cleansing balm, gentle face scrub, or cleansing cloth and then follow with a regular, water-soluble cream, gel, or lotion cleanser that’s suitable for your skin type. You then move on to the rest of your skincare routine.

Why an oil-based cleanser or oil? Oils, are adept at dissolving all types of makeup and can also help remove sunscreen. The oils work differently from surfactants found in regular facial cleansers.

The concept behind the double cleansing method is to use a cleansing oil, balm cleanser or similar product to first remove your makeup and sunscreen. This preliminary step is supposed to clear the way for your regular cleanser to cleanse your skin instead of having to work its way through layers of makeup and sunscreen. The result is a more thorough cleanse.

You may be asking, can't I just use my cleanser twice? Simply, yes. Most of the time you will really need to implement double cleansing in the evening when cleansing the day and/or makeup away.

Ok, now that we've discussed double cleansing let's get into some skincare routines. Remember, this is just the basis. You can adjust to your skin's needs/tolerance.

The following routines are below. Morning, Evening and Weekly. Weekly is the routine that should be performed weekly. For the weekly routine, you can adjust to use a mask or exfoliate more than once per week, but don't steam your face for more than 10 minutes or more than once per week. Steaming causes the face to swell, and it can exacerbate acne if done for too much time.
