Today I want to share with you one of the most frequently asked questions I receive, How can I get silky skin? Ironically I get asked this question mostly by wives. So I thought back to my married days and I can honestly say that my spouse complimented me on how soft and silky my skin was, A LOT. So I thought I would share with you my top three tips to achieve silky, soft skin.
Tip #1 - Drink Water
Ok, who already frowned? lol. Seriously I was no health nut but when I was focused on drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day, my skin glowed. Many issues are caused by food stuck on our colon walls like stucco (I know gross, but true). When you don't drink enough water to flush your system, bacteria starts to grow and affects your skin by causing issues such as dry skin, acne and a whole host of other issues.
Tip #2 - Eat Vegetables / Protein
Vegetables (especially dark leafy greens) improve digestive health. Leafy vegetables are abundant in vitamins, mineral and other components that alleviate skin-damaging factors. The nutrients nourish your skin enhancing your complexion. Also, vegetables contain a high content of water. Vegetables high in water will keep your skin moisturized preventing the onset of wrinkles, fine lines and skin sagging.
Protein is an important building block for your skin. Your body turns the proteins you eat into building blocks called amino acids and reuses them to make other proteins, including the collagen and keratin that form the structure of skin. Amino acids also help slough off old skin.
Tip #3 - Quality Skincare Products / Skincare Routine
You know the saying "you get what you pay for"? Well when it comes to skincare, this is so true. Skin products that have very little of the "good stuff" in it will at no means be beneficial to your skin. Ask yourself, how will you reap the benefits of shea butter if the lotion you purchased only has 3% shea butter in it? Still not convinced, let's do the math. If you purchased an 8 ounce bottle of lotion with 3% shea butter, it will contain a measly 0.24 ounces of shea butter in it. (not even a full ounce. That's like swiping your finger on shea butter and expecting it to moisturize your entire body. You see my point?
Ok, so let's get to it. LBB is proud to create its products with a high percentage of the "good stuff". Our signature soaps are now made with 100% aloe vera juice, yogurt and nourishing oils and butters. Quality soaps that will leave your skin soft and silky. No matter the products you use, make sure the products are of quality.
Your skincare routine is equally important as consistency is key when genetics isn't doing the work for you. So be consistent with bathing every day with a quality soap and body wash. Exfoliate at least twice a week. Exfoliating removes dull, dry skin to reveal new and vibrant healthy skin and allows your moisturizer to penetrate the skin with ease.
Also note, tip #3 is an enhancer. Quality skincare products and a good skincare routine are no good if you're not working on what you're putting in your body. They may give you a temporary glow. Making dietary changes a little bit at a time will yield great results. You're worth it!
Here is a sample skincare routine to soft silky skin:
Monday: Bathe twice (morning/evening)
Tuesday: Bathe in the morning and exfoliate face and body in the evening
Wednesday: Bathe morning and bathe in the evening with a 15 minute face mask
Thursday: Bathe twice (morning/evening)
Friday: Bathe in the morning and Bathe/exfoliate body in the evening
Saturday: Bathe in the morning and take a bath in the evening with a pedicure
Sunday: Bathe in the morning and bathe/exfoliate face in the evening
This routine can be adjusted to fit your schedule/needs. Make it work for you!
Make sure to apply moisturizer to face and body within 3 minutes of bathing to lock in moisture. Don't forget your sunscreen before going out. These are both very important to showing off beautiful silky skin!
